Nursing Home: Park Meadows Health and Rehab

Date of visit:

Length of visit: 1

1. Tell us the names of the nursing home residents you visited, and in a few sentences describe one interesting thing that you learned about each.

I visited Danette and Linda. We played mad-libs together with the other volunteers. I learned that Danette has baby dolls that she enjoys and plays with. I did not learn much about Linda as we did not have the opportunity to talk much but she seemed to enjoy the mad-libs.

2. During your visit with these residents, did you run out of things to talk about? If so, how did this silence make you feel? What were some of the highlights of your visit?

We did not run out of things to talk about, Danette would ask a question and wanted to hear from each of the volunteers. The highlight would be reading the final result of the mad-libs.

3. In a few sentences, describe the atmosphere at the nursing home. Did you see anything that you found surprising? Was there anything that happened that made you uncomfortable? What things helped the experience to be enjoyable?

The atmosphere was pretty quiet and low energy. It was a little difficult to communicate with Linda as she seemed to have trouble speaking which was a little uncomfortable for me. The other volunteers helped the experience to be enjoyable.

4. Do you think you’ll be remembered by any of the residents next week? If not, does that bother you? What things help you to know you are making a difference whether or not you are remembered?

I think I will be remembered by Danette, I am not sure I will be remembered by Linda. It does not bother me because I know she is not being rude. Seeing them be happy when I am visiting them with the other volunteers helps me know I am making a difference.
