Nursing Home: Park Meadows Health and Rehab
Date of visit:
Length of visit: 1.5
1. Tell us the names of the nursing home residents you visited, and in a few sentences describe one interesting thing that you learned about each.
I visited residents Dannette as well as Stephanie. I learned that Danette is a long time member of the facility and keeps entertained with her baby dolls that she likes to keep in a stroller around the facility for company. On the other hand, Stephanie is not originally from FL as she moved down here recently following her niece and is a relatively new member of the Rehab facility. She loves to draw and often sketches for other members of the facility.
2. During your visit with these residents, did you run out of things to talk about? If so, how did this silence make you feel? What were some of the highlights of your visit?
During this visit, the conversation was pretty fluid and consistent the entire time. The high light of my visit was going through Stephanie's drawings.
3. In a few sentences, describe the atmosphere at the nursing home. Did you see anything that you found surprising? Was there anything that happened that made you uncomfortable? What things helped the experience to be enjoyable?
The atmosphere of the nursing home is pretty mellow and exactly what I had expected. I did not feel uncomfortable at all. Guidance provided by Laura made the experience more enjoyable.
4. Do you think you’ll be remembered by any of the residents next week? If not, does that bother you? What things help you to know you are making a difference whether or not you are remembered?
I feel that I have a good change of being remembered as it seems these particular residents highly value the volunteers that come in. If not, I will just introduce myself again and hopefully leave a stronger impression. Putting a smile on someone's face I believe will help me know I am making a difference.
