NURSING HOME NEWS – NOVEMBER 2017
THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS
During this season of Thanksgiving, we would like to express our thanks to all of our volunteers and supporters for all you do throughout the year to serve our brothers and sisters in nursing homes, and to make Friends Across the Ages Nursing Home Volunteer Network the unique community that it is. Whether you are a regular weekly one-to-one volunteer, a board member, a supporter, or occasional participant, we appreciate you and all you do. If we’ve learned anything from our years with this organization, it is that seemingly small things really do make a big difference. We feel privileged to know so many caring people through this organization, and want you to know how much we value your participation in this endeavor to “bridge generations through ageless friendship.”
SAVE THE DATE FOR THE FRIENDS ACROSS THE AGES HOLIDAY CAROLING PARTY
Mark your calendars now for the annual Friends Across the Ages Holiday Party! It will be held Sunday, December 3rd from 2:30-4:30PM at North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care. This annual event has become a long standing tradition with our organization. We begin with some caroling with the residents in the dining room, and then proceed to the conference room for holiday treats, volunteer recognitions, and holiday visiting time with one another. All volunteers, supporters, friends and family are welcome. Watch for more information in our December Nursing Home News.
DO WE HAVE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS?
We are preparing to send out our winter mailer for this year, with our fall/winter edition of our newsletter, The Bridge. If you have moved in the past year, or have other updates to your contact information, please let us know as soon as possible! Send any updates to info@acrosstheages.org. And watch your mailbox in December!
NOVEMBER SPECIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
Each month, in addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing homes. These events require no ongoing commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend any of these events. Here are our special events for November:
Wednesday, November 8th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – “Storytellers’ Society” at Parklands – These monthly group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab. This month we plan to continue reading a story book about “Honest Abe” Lincoln.
Wednesday, November 15th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – Poker Party at Parklands – A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – Come help play poker with the residents, or just help cheer them on. No real money is involved; residents play for the honor of having our Championship Trophy for the month!
Thursday, November 30th, 2:30-3:30 PM – Birthday celebration – Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in November. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc. Do you play an instrument or have some other talent? We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!
