1. The reading for this week was the story of the “starfish”. How can the analogy of the starfish relate to visiting people in the nursing home? In what ways is visiting the nursing home more than just throwing starfish back in the ocean?

I think the analogy of the starfish is very relevant to visiting people in the nursing home. Even though our conversations may seem insignificant sometimes it can mean a lot to one person. Visiting the nursing home is much more than throwing a starfish back into the ocean because it's consistent and human conversation can be influential.

2. Encouraging people to keep their elderly family members at home, encouraging people to visit their family members who are in nursing homes, or fighting for changes to the law to improve conditions in the nursing home. Which of these 3 causes would you be most likely to support? Explain.

I think I would support the last one. I have volunteered in several different nursing homes and from my experience the conditions could be greatly improved. Sometimes nursing homes are stigmatized and can have negative associations but if these conditions are improved it may not be like that.
